Compressor connections

Can someone tell me exactly how to link these 2 together please,and bits & pieces I need.do I link the ends of the tanks together?,do I need a link from pressure switch to pressure switch?the red one has a regulator fitted on the tank already,but the yellow one don’t,so what do I do in that situation?

The "best" answer depends on the intended use. The simplest solution, if the compressors are going to sit at shown in the image, is to just put two T-pieces, one in the non-regulated outlet on the red reservoir, and the other below the pressure switch on the yellow tank, and join the T-pieces with a piece of flexible pipe capable of withstanding the pressure. Ideally, one of the pressure switches will be disconnected, and both compressor motors either powered by one switch (which may overload the switch contacts), or one motor turned on by a timer delay after the other. If you don't do that, one compressor will end up doing the bulk of the work, which may be fine, depending on what the setup is being used for.

Here is some pics of my setup of the 2nd compressor into my plumbed in setup. The first pic can simply be transplanted to your other compressor. It isn't hard complicated or weird. Just connect them together. Done.

That’s how I’ve done a second tank, connected them together with a hose, 2 quick release ends & a valve. Just disconnect it when not required

They will be used for everything tbh,spraying,sanding,sandblasting etc.

The existing single regulator won't be big enough to flow the output of both comps running together.
The pressure will equalise across both tanks though due to tolerances it's unlikely both will start at the same time.
If they do both kick in at once you'll get a 40A surge for 1/2 a second then 20A continuous assuming they are 3HP comps. separate starts still give you a 30A draw.
If only one kicks in then your draw is not high enough for both so that's a good thing.
Fittings are BSP black iron from your local plumbers or the same galvanised from a proper compressed air supplier at twice the price.

I'm currently wiring/plumbing 2 compressors to work together. The slave compressor is powered via a contactor switched from the master compressor. The slave compressor will have a Condor switch with differential pressure setting so it will cut out before the master and cut back in before so the decompression works as it should This means the slave won't won't run as long as the master which is good as it's runs hotter. This set up also allows each compressor to run from it's own seperate power circuit, good for me as it's at home so can connect them to 2 different socket ring circuits and start them together without a delay.

Just use a T piece to connect the output hoses together. One compressor will run more than the other, as the pressure switches will differ, but the second compressor will fire up as soon as the first one can’t maintain enough pressure.

Do you have some airline/hose to make a short hose up?

You simply need a male fitting screwed into a male to make a male to male adapter, so you can plug 2 compressors into that y fitting


It's not the best way to do it for max airflow... but its £20 spent to get you up and running

For max airflow you'll need a bunch of bigger fittings, bigger hose, bigger regulator etc etc etc and it wont make that much difference, fittings above will do close to the max output of your 2 compressors

Will two of the same model both want to kick in at the same time? Or is it still staggered because of pressure imbalance, one working more than the other, something like that?

There will always be some tolerance in the pressure switches meaning one will come on first, likely the same one each time, if you are using a lot air than the compressor can keep up with it won't matter as the pressure will soon drop enough to kick the second compressor in.

If one compressor can just about keep up the second will never kick in but it will run a lot more than maybe it should, duty cycle is important, this was the issue I was having so now have them set up master and slave. The adjustment doesn't give me exactly what I want, the weaker/slave compressor only shuts off about 30 seconds before the master compressor and kicks back in at the same time.

Same with my 160amp stick welder, fitted a 4” fan to the louvres at the rear, and never saw the overheat light again.
I find it odd they don’t come with much by way of cooling equipment.

I ran my little 2hp almost continuously when spraying, in the heat of the Philippines. However, I strapped a 220 volt fan to the side of it and it never overheated.
Same with my 160amp stick welder, fitted a 4” fan to the louvres at the rear, and never saw the overheat light again.
I find it odd they don’t come with much by way of cooling equipment.

I think I should do the same, the standard fan setup is next to useless.
