Yup. we all use dewpoint sensors.....

I got a chance to do a little bit of testing today. My multimeter has a temp seting and a remote sensor so I checked the ambient temp in my garage which was 27C, the temp of the air coming out of the end of the air hose reel was 26C so the cooler was working which I confirmed by taking readings at the outlet from the pump and the inlet to the cooler which were both 106C. The temp at the exit from the cooler just before the first water/oil seperator was 26C and of course the entry into the tank was also 26C. There is then about 6m of copper to the PCL DropOut then the hose reel which is about 15m. I hadn't unwound the reel all day so it was obviously at ambient temp. I also checked the temp at the outlet from the tank and that was 26C.
It seems that I've managed to get cool air OK and hopefully that will mean that the water content will be quite low. The seperator I fitted between the cooler and the tank auto empties everytime the compressor stops and there is a fair amount of oily water dumped on my floor (must do something about that). I need to strip the PCL DropOut to see if anything is in there as I've never seen anything come out the drain.
Next will be to see if there is any moisture at the end of the hose.

That looks interesting. I'm hoping my air is quite clean so will be ok for most things. That filter will be perfect if it needs just a little bit more.

I think you would be shocked at the contaminated that are coming out of a standard piston compressor, Oil free Screws have much less, but that comes with a cost. I like the spraying the empty gun on to glass idea.
Much of what's required is down to system design and frequent cleaning a draining of the cylinder

I origionally was ony using the compressor for air tools so I was only really interested in getting rid of water. Hopefully my current setup is doing that. I will be doing the empty gun test and probably putting in a tee to feed a spray gun before the hose reel. I will add some final oil/water filters at that point. My auto drain valve on the tank does a good job of keeping the tank dry.

I said to MEASURE it, not to use one. That is literally the only way to measure it. I then followed up and said use dessicant which you can’t spell apparently. I never said everyone uses one, I highlighted a specific case actually where they SHOULD be used. Maybe there is air in your head that needs drying.
