compressed gas sign

just been in local BOC for odds and sods, the Manager in there said ..is that your van, becouse you now need to have compressed gas sign on all sides not just the one i have on the back door,he wasnt just trying to flog me some as he gave me two more and said the local cops are activly pulling vans and issuing tickets..better than catching thieves and rapists i supose.
any one any wiser ..has the law changed or has this allways been the case

we were ordered to take the stickers off our vans because we don't carry enough, apparently the fire brigade gets confused thinking we have massive amounts of gas on board a transit van

yep I tried google and had the same result..daft thing is I see ambulances and cop cars with the one tiny sticker on the back

I was intrigued by this, so tried to find the answer.

From the 'European agreement concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by road (ADR)' which apparently was adopted by some act and covers all of us now:

5.3.1.4.1 - Placards shall be affixed to both sides and at the rear of the vehicle.

However the regulations are SO COMPLICATED and literally hundreds and hundreds of pages, that is rather out of context and it's difficult to work out what they are getting at really. Seems like it might be true, although I think the police stoping people is a dodgy rumour really.

I was under the impression or my view when I read into it, if its business it needs to be on the rear of the car minimum, if your not trade you can carry gas but with a 2kg extinguisher but you do not need to show the sign and you need to carry gas documents.

Lets not forget that an ambulance only has them on the rear I think, I will look next time

I do find it odd when carrying Co2 (a giant extinguisher) I need to carry a 2kg extinguisher too??

I picked up a 47KG cylinder in the car at the weekend. Laid it on the back seat
Dealer was only a few hundred yards from the workshop though
Welding gas supplier is the other end on town though

You get folks with 3 or 4 47kg propane cylinders lying down in the back of their estate car driving halfway across the highlands

If your carrying oxyacetylene, by rights you should have flammable gas, compressed gas and oxidising agent diamond stickers.
Presumably this daft law wants you to show them all, not just compressed gas stickers?

you want to try having SF6 on site lots of new stickers! typical EU rules make them so complex that there so confusing no one understand them

That would be typical; change the law, don't tell anyone, revenue from fines, ignorance is no defence.
