Hi all,
I've had a go on a welder once or twice in the past, I'm a competant DIY'er/Solder-er/Semi-competant mechanic and engineer in training. I am looking for a welder that will be allow me to do some repair work on my campervan, make a fuel tank and build a simple bed frame. Not sure how thick the metal will be, but I'd guess at most 4mm in some places on the van... (ford transit mk6 engine bay)
Anyway, I'm basically on a shoestring budget, thinking a MIG is probably the best place to start, although there is a super cheap (£10) Arc Welder going locally, an Elto Super 90 which goes from 20A-90A. Though I'd rather avoid wasting the money if its going to be too difficult to use.
I've seen some DIY welding machines from microwave transformers/car batteries but as I'm quite limited on time, I'd rather buy a decent-ish second hand unit.
Ideally, it will be compact enough.
Budget is really around £100 but could possibly stump up a little more if it makes things easier.
I'd also prefer to have a gasless option, as space is a premium and my wife may just string me up if I take up any more space in the garage.
Anyway, thanks.
New units I've found recommended include...
https://www.uptimewelding.co.uk/upt...-160-amp-igbt-with-torch-and-accessories.html Inverter control sounds like a winner to me....
https://www.amazon.co.uk/GYS-030077...J8/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= - can get one for around £130
Or this seems to be recommended... https://www.weldingdirect.co.uk/CWS-MMA-160-Amp-Stick-Welder
Also there's these....
Sealey 210XT - £70

https://www.gumtree.com/p/welding-equipment/welder/1350810628 - dirt cheap £10 welder

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
