I think I saw it on here a while back. A list of all spanners sizes, metric, BSW, et al with dimensions in their appropriate units and metric/imperial conversion, a 1/2" UNC would be listed as 1/2" or 12.7mm.

Any hints or links please. Or does someone fancy compiling one.

I truthfully never understand why manufacturers use odd size or style of bolts-fittings. The obvious answer is to try to prevent home mechanics enacting repairs, in truth it may be more to do with automated production tooling.

Freelander are 21mm wheel nuts. Or at least freelander 2 are as they're the horrid ford nuts with a tin cover that swells and sticks in the socket.

That is continuing the long tradition of using Whitworth (7/16") on Landrovers.

If ever your wheels get pinched, go looking for the nearest scaffolder.

I'm sure the place I worked at used to invent fasteners to make it difficult for others to work on their vehicles, such some of the bolts on the gearbox had a 7 splined head.
