complete newbie looking for advice!!!

Hi guys
i jus found this forum after getting very intersted in metalworking/welding after years of woodworking and carpentry.
i want to learn to TIG weld, having no experience of any welding, was a bit put of by the claims of how difficult it is!!!

However rome wasnt built in a day, and everything takes time and a lil practice (prob more then i imagine! lol so im gonna take the plunge and get myself a TIG kit.......but the age ol` question which 1?

have been trawling the net for the best deals as im on a budget! and dont wanna spend the earth on a machine that is overkill for my purposes (small fab work, auto repair etc)

have seen this kit, seems reasonable but im an amatuer lol

does anybody kno/used this machine? got a budget of around £400 for everything i will need, does any body kno of any better deals?

Tig machine

Have tried to use the link to my site but it did not work, the most important questions for tig welding are
1, Is it Mild steel /Stainless steel which is welded with DC output or are you looking to weld ALI which you need AC
2, What Max thickness are you looking to weld
3, have you single phase or three phase supply
with a budget of £400 you have plenty of options

would love to get an ac/dc machine but my funds wont allow it!

im in england, and wont be welding any thing to heavy duty 5mm max but mostly round 2-3mm so am i right in saying its a phase1 im after?

not sure on the welder on the link as i dunno bout the quality of the machine or its make? any info or recomendations would b greatly appreciated

The machine on the link is supplied by Newarc in Newcastle, it is a good inverter, this unit is a scratch start unit, this means you scratch the Tungsten on the workpiece to obtain a arc, this is ok but you can get Tungsten inclusion in the weld, HF start is better but it depends on your budget
