I’ve got lots of bright shiny certificates now and earn £2.99, but 30 years ago I started at the bottom, even though I’d done a very specific and vocational course at uniSomething so few people understand… I’ve got a bright shiny new certificate, I’m now an expert and want 50k
getting the troops to read it was the main issue
I hear ya, some of the best workers are the ones who are the most stubborn...getting the troops to read it was the main issue
I have a full wall of Rules, Orders of the Day, Insurance docs, you name it.
As an experiment I started to take all the newbies to this area and discuss all sorts with them. I made sure we walked to and from and past this wall at least half a dozen times.
Then I would sit them down in the lounge area and ask them what they had seen. Without exception, the wall of paper had not been noticed.
Sometimes human nature kicks in and overload is just that so you need to be creative and also patient with some people.
Then they might get it.
That's why we had standing orders and routine notices that were read out daily .I have a full wall of Rules, Orders of the Day, Insurance docs, you name it.

Anda week later, could they tell you what they had signed? That's why we had standing orders and routine notices that were read out daily .
Then they were available on a clip board for a month. Each document had to be signed off by each watch officer.
Quite possibly....usually at least one of the watch would know the gist of it. But at least it would be all read out.Anda week later, could they tell you what they had signed?
Last time my name was on the paperwork for welding on an oil filled pipe in a deep excavation, getting the troops to read it was the main issue, being welders they knew best!
yep even when at the start of each shift they were all briefed, still ignored it all once they started. They were a panic type squad, brought in who were more used to working in hot sandy locations. That's why I brief the guys on the RAMS personally and put my own signature in the 'briefed by' box.
