I've heard this today - as a new ltd company hard to get credit, set up accounts with suppliers, even things like a phone line. One of the other advantages of being a sole trader before opening second ltd company as they already know me - means having to use the same suppliers of course.
I guess your "business manager" is someone at the bank.
Despite his job title he has never managed a business!
While 2 businesses running side by side can work very well with the unincorporated one selling to domestic, non VAT registered customers, and the company selling to trade, VAT registered customers there are a number of practical issues you will have to deal with well. HMRC are not very keen on these structures so if you don't get the detail correct they will give you problems.
Swings & roundabouts... if you're not Vat registered you can't reclaim the Vat on your materials, so you are immediately at a 17.5% disadvantage on your material costs.
How about "Fabtec"??
