I bought my gear from local so franchisee in n. London, he was good at replacing broken bits and his prices were really good and i loved the offers!
Ive got a couple of FACOM sets, probably my favourite spanner’s I really like their ergonomics and the satin chrome finish - I’ve never been a big fan of shiny chrome.
I've been fortunate enough to travel to the US on a regular basis in the past with a rather sizeable transport aircraft at my disposal. As a result most of my hand tools (inc. comb. spanners) are all Craftsman. Their stuff is easily as good a quality as snap off (at a fraction of the price) as was their warranty. In fact, I once returned a 14mm 1/2" drive socket to them because it split when I hammered it onto a worn out 9/16" headed bolt. Not only did they replace it but sent me $20 of vouchers! Admittedly I did write them a very tongue in cheek letter of complaint, explaining exactly how it split, but amazing service all the same. And at the time their warranty was limited to the USA only. I still don't think they export but I wish they would, I don't get to the US much these days and used to while away hours in the basements of Sears
One of my neighbours has a Craftsman tool kit and it’s rather old, ratchets are not working to release anymore and it’s missing a few sockets too. I think it served him well, although I don’t rate it any higher than halfords finest advanced gear !
I have sent my dad two sets of ratchet spanners long time ago, both were halfords Pro on the wrappers, one is fixed the other has flexi heads...comes to think i remember the flex heads being stamped gearwrench? never took notice...Halfords advanced is made by gearwrench infact certain items arnt even rebranded ive ive picked up a pack of halfords flex head ratchet spanners and they where stamped gearwrench
I agree, I have two sets, 6 to 32, and both have none missing, except the 31, as the missing ones annoy me too. Plus a couple of smaller sets as you always loose the 10 and 13 somewhere mid job!I have never understood why so many spanner sets come with sizes omitted/missing, also wondered why double sets are not made. What good is one spanner of a particular size on its own ? Should be all sizes included in the range and two of.

I have a Cromwell Whitworth open ended set where the largest size on the first spanner is the smallest size on the next spanner and so on. Obviously the smallest jaw on the smallest spanner and the largest jaw on the largest spanner can not be duplicated but all sizes in between have two spanners that fit each size.I have never understood why so many spanner sets come with sizes omitted/missing, also wondered why double sets are not made. Edit: They may or may not do similar sets in AF and metric, I have not looked.
I have never understood why the combi spanner manufacturers have not made them odd ended. as an example the 12mm open ended end has the 11mm ring the other. That way you would have an open ended /ring combination of each size and only losing out on a companion each end of the range.

If you're in the trade odd ended spanners would be a complete pain to use.Normally you'd use one end then flip it over and use the other, how awkward would it be to use one spanner then find the other spanner and use that.Time is money.
