I'm posting a new one because I can't find any detail on this query despite a number of searches and passing references
Despite being a hobbyist for some time I've always struggled to see the welding puddle and area to the extent that I can't even follow the line sometimes. Recent upgrades to my migmate 130 and purchasing a new machine and starting a welding course have led me to realise that my helmet may be a very big factor in this. At the first college session last week using a fairly basic parweld helmet, I was much better able to see, though not as well as others I think. Practising at home with both welders (flux core on one and CO2/argon mix with gasless wire on two different machines, leads me to think my twenty year old silverline helmet is not what I need (I have finally cleaned it and replaced lenses BTW!) However, I have recently found out that my colour blindness is quite bad (I can't distinguish well between the green and amber letters on Wordle - my wordle performance is miles better in blue and orange!) I also wear varifocals and prefer to do close up work really close up without my glasses on. I am going to upgrade my helmet but I wonder if anyone like me has the combination of short and near vision issues and colour blindness? I am thinking that a blue, as opposed to green filter might be the best option. Also, is any big dealer likely to give me a chance to experiment when I only want to spend £50-100 ? Any advice or experience gratefully appreciated.
