cold compressor?

on the compressor, when i start it up in the morning the motor toils for about 5 seconds until it trips the switch, i have to do this about 6 times before the motor goes fast enough for it to work properly, or the other method is put a hairdryer up to the cylinder for about 3 minuits before switching it on, its an annoyance and especially because i have to drain the tank every time i want some air, is this normal for a compressor?, oh its a belt driven one by the way

Do you leave air pressure in the reciever?

Check the capacitors, especially the start one which would be the highest rated one. assuming the unloading valve works and its not leaking past the check valve.

not anymore, but it only starts well when the cylinder is warm

all the valves seem to work, how do you check the capacitors?, is that the blue round things?

have you got any pictures?i assume the motor and pump runs all the time ,and it just loads and unloads,direct drive switch off?,i'm more familiar with direct drive,also assume its 240v.....Gav

the motor stops automatically when it gets to about 130psi then kicks back in again at about 90 (but it also has a safety release valve), yes 240v. ill have to get pics tomorrow bit late now!

It is belt drive, rather than direct drive, so it is probably not oil-free ? Check the type and condition of oil in the crankcase. Slip the belt off, check the motor starting up on its own, and try rotating the compressor by hand. With the belt back on, disconnect the air pipe from the cylinder head ( i.e. it will be permanently in "unloaded" mode, pumping to free air ), does it then start up OK ?

i have the same problem, i think it's just that it's on the limit for 13 amp.
it's deff oil to thick, i also warm it up first in cold weather.
dont really want to put thinner oil into,so i suffer it.
