Hi folks,
Got fed up with the top slide not moving nice and free on my Triumph so I stripped it all down. The culprit was potentially 50 odd years of crud all over it, which has made certain that I'll be stripping and cleaning the rest, not sure I've the patience to paint it though...
Anyway, the point of this thread is kind of a spur off from fizzys post a while back about his nice dixon toolpost not fitting due to the Triumps odd cast spigot on the 4 way toolpost it came with. I'm making this thread rather than tagging onto that one as there seems to be no documented process of the swap, just posts saying they've done it.
I'd like to fit a qctp (as after shimming 4 tools this week swapping them I wasted a fair bit of time), a wedge type probably as they seem to get better user reviews than the piston type and the dixon type look too much faf to use, I like the 2 handles of the wedge type (like what doubleboost has on his Harrison).
My quandary is the face that I'll have to mill off the spigot (see pics) irreversibly to fit the qctp. And as yet haven't found a new toolpost that looks like it'll fit, I think I need a 250-200 or bigger sized one. I'm happy enough I can turn a new pin to suit the new post.
Spigot from the top, approx 54mm wide x 48 tall.
And from below, where the wedge locking mechanism lives.
There would be some of that thread left after machining, but not a lot. Still plenty of clearance for a nice big washer head to the new pin.
Drawing from the manual, very helpful taking it apart!
Any advice much appreciated.
