The Thompson is 18 ton.As above Sideways packed up at Christmas. My three lathe beds were his last paying work far as I know. No idea if the new guy has got it all going yet but there has to be a steep learning curve (for him) if anyone fancies being a guinea pig.
It would have to be a big surface grinder - sideways' small one weighed 11 tons I think.
Hes is on PM forum. I remember him saying he regretted it and never again, must have been a lot of re workThat is just about the worst example of botched way grinding I've ever seen.

Yes they do, and in my book that would be a good result, so a bit ott to say an angle grinder would be just as good - but then standards of angle grinder work also vary....There may be a lot worse but that doesn't make that one a good job. If he regretted the time he spent doing it then it's BECAUSE of the end result. If it had been satisfactory you wouldn't regret spending the time. He might just as well hit it with an angle grinder IMO, but standards do vary.

I used to use a grinder for hardened ways on linear transfer machines and broaching machines. Ive seen some comments about material contamination, how do they think they were machined in the first place! It's not OTT at all I know someone who used a grinder to 'scrape' in a bedway and HE did a very nice job of it.

That’s what went through my mind! Kent is quite close to Essex and much cheaper haulageThat makes two of us then that are not overly happy with him then!
On the bright side,if you stay in contact with the Electrician, maybe you can buy the machines at a later date. Bit closer to you ....
Nope. Your wrong on that score. Not on the retiring bit,the last job bit! My Krv3000 milling machine bed was his last job. Picked it up the week before Christmas !
