Now I am using my old Triumph roundhead more I have noticed it gets a little noisy at high speeds - over 700rpm.
I was worried that is was worn bearings on the spindle. When you kill the power and it slows down there is a definite rumble.
It has been worrying me for a while - so I was very relieved when I finally discovered the noise is coming from the change gears at the back of the lathe.
There doesn't appear to be any wear in them - one of them has a little bit of play in and out. It has a bearing on it - is this adjustable or easy to change?
And yes I am being fussy - the lathe sounds far quieter than any other Colchester I have heard on Youtube. Perhaps that is why it is more noticeable.
I will take photos and videos - forgot today.
