How are your camloc nose cams?

Thanks Martin, into the championship rounds now, trying not to rush or skip parts I will regret and go back to later

My cams I’m not sure about. They work fine and don’t over travel, other than that, I haven’t checked. I will take a look now though as they are a little bit important!

I was thinking you could make them but a bit like wheel bolts on a car, it’s one of the few areas you don’t want to chance with heat treatment etc.

Who done the grinding?

Seems strange that the rear flat way would be 0.1 higher than the front

The errors were me and not the machine! Also thought the saddle cross slide ways were climbing 0.1mm but that was me also and was half that which was easily scraped out.

I can’t remember how I was so far out, but I’m sure I can do it again one day

Got the garage electrics finished then moved onto DRO install. There are other bits still needed but if I don’t do it now, it won’t happen for ages.

X axis turned out very simple on the chipmaster as a single bracket worked with enlarging some slots. 3 holes drilled and it’s on!

Have to come up with way to guard it now and also a spacer to stop me smashing **** out of it with tailstock

Also topped up spindle with Morlina and sounds very nice.

It may be the perspective of the photo, but you might also need to be careful when adjusting the angle of the compound.

You are right. Have to run crossslide over to get underneath it. With fresh eyes tomorrow I may move it back.

Certainly looks like it.

Lovely bits of kit, but at the price they charge I wouldn't go out looking for the miniaturised version if I had a working one!

They do and that is the small one! The saddle and cross slide is small on these. The readers are the same physical size it’s the scale that’s smaller diameter.

Finally assembled and running. I was going to leave final jobs so I can use it but can’t bring myself to do it. So today is better DRO cover on X Axis and spacer for compound gib. Paint gearbox so it all starts same colour before knocking lumps off.

Headstock aligned and turning parallel. I turned 150mm then measured diameters both ends. 0.2mm smaller at chuck end.

I clocked the bar along length and then bumped end over 2.5 times the runout reading (recommended start point in manual). It was right first time which meant I recut bar 4 times and checked diameter as I couldn’t believe it

Please write in soft pencil in the back of the manual that 36/63 gearing in place of the standard 33/66 will give you 1.75mm or 3.5mm pitch threads when used with the metric translation gear.

Then made a little button head for stop bolt to prevent tailstock hitting reader.



Now going out to fill and paint gearbox before leaving the damn thing alone and using it for something!

Next up is my turbo bandit project and if I can wait long enough, then the surface grinder rebuild.

You take the minimum off and try and keep in balance with the front prism

I made my bump stop out of nylon so I don''t get the dink of metal against metal when I move the tailstock up.
