Colchester Chipmaster Manual

After unsuccessfully trying to find one online I put the effort into digging out the manual for my Chipmaster so that I could try and learn how to screw cut on it, thought others with Chipmasters might find it useful so have scanned it in.

If you look on the French 'usinages' forum (https://passion-usinages.forumgratuit.org/), there are a number of Chipmaster manuals (https://passion-usinages.forumgratuit.org/t1576-colchester-chipmaster), some with more pages than your own that include all the exploded diagrams and standard part lists. The manuals and info. on the Kopp variator are also online somewhere. It is also worth downloading the Harrison 10AA manual (http://neme-s.org/Shaper Books/Harrison Model 10 AA Lathe/Harrison Model 10 AA Lathe.pdf) as that was a rebadged Chipmaster and its manual contains stuff that Colchester never put in their own one.

Hi All, I'm resurrecting this thread, as I also have a Chipmaster and am looking for a bit of advice, please? Mine has a number of oil leaks, which I have finally decided to try and tackle. Could anyone tell me what lubricants they're suing, please? The original manual says the headstock needs Shell Tellus 15 (which now seems to be Tellus S2 VX 15); the gearbox needs Tellus 33 (now Tellus S2 MX 68); and the variator needs Shell Vitrea 21 (now Morlina S2 BL 10).

Are those what others are using, please?

Also, if anyone has a workshop manual (or something that tells me how to take it to bits - or, more importantly, put it back together!) I'd be grateful. At present, I'm just working from exploded parts drawings.

I use Castrol DTE Light in the headstock. The reason? I used to work at a power station where the turbine oil was this grade so my thinking was if it's good enough for 3000rpm steam turbines it's good enough for my lathe. Also the headstock bearings are hollow roller bearings which need thinnish oil. Someone has written the following bracketed text in my manual.

Headstock: Shell Tellus Oil 15 (Shell Morlina 10)
Gearbox: Shell Tellus Oil 33 (Shell Tellus 68 ISO)
Variator: Shell Vitrea Oil 21 (Use Tellus 10 or Morlina 10)

I use Morlina 10 in both the headstock and variator and any old ISO 32 in the gearbox.
