How much? I remember my dad bringing home a half hundred weight bag of coke on the crossbar of his pushbike that he had picked up from the gasworks on his way home for a shilling (5p for you young ones). Mind you that was in the 1950s.

Thanks Nick, but I’ll be in the UK shortly, Smith’s are going to put some aside for me.

Oil £0.04
Gas £0.03
Electric £0.24
So not too bad a price! Port Talbot should use it - def cheaper than electric

It takes at least 10-12 minutes to get a fire going and that's if you are constantly tending it (labour cost)
Plus you need electricity to run the blower unless you have bellows and can find an urchin to blow you for less than minimum wage.
The fire is then running constantly so you need to be working at least 2 pieces to save wasting half the heat.
Even then, most of the kw/h's are going up the chimney.
You also have collection/delivery costs, storage and disposal of the bags and the clinkers.
Then there is the dust...

I started using induction. Pretty sure it paid for itself in 2yrs and has saved me money and time since!

You’re not wrong, if I hadn’t staffed my savings on a conventional forge I’d go the same route.
