Coke spilt onto expensive ipad.

My grandson has accidently spilt diet coke on my sons brand new ipad.
He was told by his great nan to not say anything and she just wiped the case.
Fast forward to today and he has just gone to use it and its all dead.
Won't charge or turn on.
Is this a candidate for ultrasonic cleaning if the insurance fails to cover it?

They are pretty much waterproof. The only possible point of entry is the charge port, so maybe it is just totally flat? Sometimes they need to be fast charged for a few minutes before they show any signs of life whatever.

I left this one out all night in the rain, dried for a while in the boiler room, worked fine since...

Yeah they're pretty well waterproof, if it won't charge from its normal cable try one from a car charger, a few times it's managed to kick-start one that a normal USB plug couldn't.

I'd suggest dunking something with a battery in, that cannot be disconnected or removed, into a any liquid is a very quick way to make it useless if it's not totally waterproof.

If you can get it apart, and the battery out, maybe.

As you realise, what he means is a 2A plus high current 5V charger rather than the weedy 500mA plugs that 'phones come with.

I put my iphone through the washing machine once, never realised until there was a clonking sound coming from the tumble dryer after I transferred everything next morning...... Yes, beer was involved...

I am sure that Apple started waterproofing the charge socket too, so that it would survive 30 mins in shallow clean water. I may be wrong, but I am convinced that I read it somewhere.

I hope that is the case, they (ipad / iPhones) when totally discharged do take a while to even indicate charging even with a USB3 to lightening charger giving up to 2A. My in car USB2 type charger is not up to waking up my 12pro if totally discharged.

There must be more to it than it's simply run out of charge as you say it won't charge.
Does it have wireless charging capability? If so and it will charge using that but not via a cable then that would point to a faulty charge socket.
Have you tried cleaning out the charge port (is it still the lightning port on the latest ones?) with some folded paper dipped in IPA?

That is true, they will often take a few minutes before showing signs of life if they're fully discharged.

SWMBO dropped her phone in the washing up water and panicked and was told by shop it would never work again and sold her a new one . I pulled the battery out and dried it over a warm rad. and it's worked for me ever since . Suggest a clean water rinse and a drying session.

No, you'll destroy it. If they replace the item, don't bin the dead one, I might be able to rescue some parts out of it depending on version, age etc.

Not quite what I said!

I pointed out that chargers come in many flavours. The simple 500mA plug that 'phones are typically supplied with and the higher current varieties which are typically about 2A and supplied with tablets. Then you have aftermarket chargers, many of which will achieve 3A or more. Plug in "cigarette lighter" type chargers tend to be high current but it isn't a given. There are plenty of 500mA versions floating about.

A completely dead tablet needs to draw quite a lot of current initially, so a high current charger is going to be the best bet. Even then it may not respond for a minute or two.

As already said by others I've had Ipad/Iphone that will sit on charger for some time before any signs of life, sometimes overnight.
