Cobolt Drill Bits

I'm after a decent set of cobolt drill bits. Any one recommend any good sets? Ignoring the likes of Guhring, Cleveland & Hertel as I can't justify those prices sadly !!

I doubt they really retail for over £100? is this a good price?

I've a set of normal Heller HSS bits and over the years they've been well used and abused & still drill ok.

Take it I should ignore the likes of Clarke !! LOL

i couldnt fathom paying £100 for a set of drill bits :O

the ones you have posted seem ok, although im sure you could find them on ebay.

That's a good price but I'm not sure about the quality though, I've seen some cheap Heller bits which just didn't look like they had the quality of the normal stuff. Beware of ebay ones too, I've just seen some for sale on there for £23.50 which I know are lidl ones bought for about a fiver! Look for split-point 5% or 7% cobalt.

Is that real chinese cobolt or real cobolt. There are some cheap nasty drills bits out there. I have had and used so real nice cobolt drills 13mm drill bit £13 each. Personally i would prefer a quality brand that you know is going to last, but if its out for some rough work a cheap set would be ok

Dormer A002, the best drill bits i have ever used. Rare i need to sharpen one of them!!
And it takes a lot to snap one

But they do come at a price

If you want quality youll have to pay for it, if you want rubbish, youll still end up buying the quality later on....

Depends on what sizes you want, you can pick up them dormers for about £40 for 1-10mm

I'd also recommend the Dormer bits, quality at sensible prices. What are you drilling Railhead?

Unfortuantly as said, the cheep one's are not normaly much bottle, I used to import american quad bits, when i was doing masive amounts of structual stuff these were excellent because of the 4 cuting faces, I now normaly get cobolt bits from the wurth rep, not the cheepest but good quality, Some of the So called cheep cobolt bits shatter, which im not keen on if my face, is anyware near.....

They are like hacksaw blades and stanley blades you em from work................

look up cromwell tools
catalogue they have good sets at the right price i dont think u will find cheaper for the quality

Likewise........the Dormer A002 sets are brill but expensive, you only get what you pay for........I'm fortunate enough to have a set..................

A lot of the cheap Chinese drills are cobalt 'coated'. They aren't solid cobalt alloy. I would avoid them.

I recall being on a job where I had to drill a 3mm hole into the stainless steel wall of an Otis lift using a cordless electric drill.. I used a quality HSS bit and could barely scratch the surface of the metal. It took ages and lots of pressing to drill that hole. (Good thing I only had to drill one )

That was one time I wished I had a quality cobalt drill bit......
