Hi chaps,i am thinking about a cobel plasma cutter had a scan through threads but not a lot about them can anyone shed any light on these machines i know these seem to be cheaper than other brands but its all i can afford and i will only be cutting 4mm and less.thanks for any info.Kev.

Can't comment on this particular machine but I would say check out the price of torch consumables before you buy as these can mount up pretty quickly.

When I've looked before I found that Cobel seem to be what would be termed box shifters. The benefit is cheapest items, but they will be at the bottom of pile in terms of support.
Check out their returns policy too, it's not the most comforting.
I was considering a similar route, and also looked at LTS as well, seeing some great prices. In the end I upped my budget and got an Eastwood Versa Cut from Frost Auto, I wanted pilot arc and the torch it comes with is a step up.
Plasma part are well rated for their back up too. If you've got more cash then Rtech would be worth a look, above that you're into the heavyweights like Hypertherm etc. Weldequip also lists an IFL on here, I expect they're well supported too.
In short, at the lower end, you take a chance that's paid off for some, and it seems they do tend to fail early if they are going to fail, so in theory you get it sorted it'll give some service, whereas higher up they tend to be a bit more reliable.

Thanks for input chaps,thinking rtech looked at them seems to be good feedback from all their customers 2yr warenty and they pay for collection and return if theres anything wrong even some sparetips with it.i will let you know what its like when i get it.cheers,kev.

Look on the bay to see if R-Tech are offering any discounted shop soiled machines, don't let the term shop soild put you off, there is usually very little, like minor paint scratches, to absolutely nothing, I bought mine as shop soild, and the only think I could find wrong was, it was dusty.....excellent vfm.

in my opinion cobel is best avoided (owning a cobel mig myself) they are cheap chinise junk someone in the uk is bringing them in and stickering them up shearch for the address its a trailer park

If you've not already made the purchase, R-Tech have a shop soiled 30amp plasma cutter on both their own site and evil bay. At £349 it's a real sinch!
Would buy it myself except I need a TIG plant more urgently, and surprise surprise, it'll be the R-Tech AC/DC 160....shop soiled naturally!
I've faffed around for months and their products stand up far better than most for the sub-£1k mark.

Would be interested to know how you get on with your machine. I'd not used a plasma cutter before but it is the business.
Regarding the light output of the arc, it does seem a lot less than a welding arc, and if you use a drag tip, you'll hardly see much of it at all.

My new toy arrived this morning having orderd yesterday morning it arrived 9.45 this morning,got it all set up works well onlytried on some 1mm sheet and 2.5 tubing which i had some offcuts and i am very pleased with it.I will be trying it on some 4mm next week if i had known what they were like i would have had one sooner,very impressed and thanks for the info regaurding rtech if it hadent been for you chaps i would have gone for a cheeper one,cheers,Kev
