Hi evrebody just joined to-day.I bought a cobel 200amp ac/dc welder off e bay in the summer of 2010 and have just got round to trying it.It does not work.The arc takes an age to strike and the weld quality is rubbish,it is like trying to weld with no gas. The machine current keeps droping to zero and i have to keep switching off and on. Also when the foot pedel is pluged in there is no power to the torch.Have i just wasted my money or is there a solution to this.PS i was trying to weld an aluminium water tank and ended up using oxy /act with flux and just got by.

If it's like welding with no gas have you tried measuring the gas at the torch using a peashooter? Like in the picture below. Also is the gas pure argon?
Worth posting a photo of the setup you've used on the controls on the front of the machine in case there's something in that which would cause the current to ramp down.

Does it have a tack weld function and is it switched on? Have you got the trigger set to 2T and released it? The questions are endless and some more clues would help as above.
