Wax can be suprisingly durable if done right and is touchy feely nicey.

Another vote for Dutch oils here,done all the kitchen tops with it and its still good fifteen years later.

Clear Danish oil for me aswell.

Mahogany but give the idea. It can polish up pritty good aswell. If it need another coat just wipe don from dust and dirt and reapply

Vote for Clear Danish oil.

But with oak, if it has bean sanded or is new let the door oxide for about 4 weeks. The oil and the difference will be worth the wait.

Umpteen coats of Danish Oil. The more the merrier. my table had loads of it. Rubbed down with 240 grit sand paper then lots more and finished off rubbed down with a ten pound note. it feels bloody lovely years later. Scratch it and die.

That's a nice bit of wood and has come up really well in oil.
I fancy getting an old side by side again to tart up.

It's not a particular old gun in fact it from the 80s when everything got a thick gallop of dark poo coloured polyurethane. 10 bore zabala

Now this is next under and over 10 bore with a bit of figure in the stock. Just chemically stripped and a few dents raised up with a wet towel presently. Will raise the grain and apply oil of alkernet root to highlight and colour that walnut

I think a CZ SBS I had years ago was pretty much the same. I don't really understand it, if you're got a nice bit of wood I prefer it to be shown off, which is usually best done with an oil or wax finish.
Have you thought of doing similar on the forend with a darker wood tip for the stock? The the cap on the grip looks nice, sets of the light walnut quite well.

The reason is cost. No prep just lob the goo on in one big hit - horrid but they made stuff like that a lot in the 80s

The grip cap is entirely practical and the hand of the stock is also recessed out during the alterations. It takes the thumb muscle and joint giving better support and helps a good trigger pull. Here is another that shows this clearer. The main. Stock is beech and a little stain was added and then true oil (which is really more of a sand in lacquer than an oil)
