Coals tray paint..

Hi guys in process of making a bbq from a beer keg..due to it being thin I'm putting a flat tray in bottom for the coals, what paint if any can I use that's fairly durable and wont poison the food

I would have thought it would be best left unpainted? almoset everything will burn off eventually.

you can buy bbq paint...assume thats as good as any

or make it with stainless?

probably better with some kind of mesh
ive got a mesh then just some cheap baking trays under to catch the ash as it falls through

I always make the mesh outta 10mm rebar...don't warp to much and there's always some laying around somewhere......
for wood stoves I use 16mm rebar for the grate........

Just worried with a mesh that coals would fall through.

May try it though but if I go down the tray route il leave it unpainted.
