co2 Reg sealing washer

I have just had a co2 bottle refilled after I have only ever used argoshield. (going to use it on generaly thicker steel)
The co2 reg I aquired with my welder has a perished "o" ring on the stem shoulder. Is it an "o" ring or should it be a fibre/rubber washer? and where can I get some? If it should be an "o" ring will one from the garage's mixed selection box do.

I use a small Murex CO2 reg and the washer looks and feels more like nylon. I'd say go for the fibre/rubber washer provided the stem shoulder and the bottle valve have a flt land to seal to.

A rubber O-ring will simply pop under pressure as there is no supporting structure behind it. A nylon or fibre washer has sufficient strength to withstand the forces generated by the gas from the cylinder. The only rubber seals that will work in this application are the ones where the rubber is moulded onto the inside of a steel washer.

Thanks for that I'll sort a flat type seal washer out for it.

The rubber molded steel washer is called a "Dowty" washer.
