Co2 Pub bottle refills

Hello, I'm new to this forum so be kind, I have done a few search's on google and they come back with Posts on here but they are all old, I used to do a lot of Mig welding back in the late 90's early 2000's on cars with friends, anywho my question is....

Does anybody know of anywhere in Middlesbrough or Teesside that fills Pub size gas bottles

Gaffneys won't refill unless I have a BOC account.

H.E Woolley Fire Protection Ltd wont refill unless its their bottle or £50 for a bottle then £10 refill after that.

North East Counties don't seem to be in business anymore (number won't connect, used these back in the day £5 a refill)

I have one more place to try Energas (just of Sotherby Rd)

So unless anybody knows of a place I'm stuck with 4 empty bottles.

Hello Oberlisc,

have a look for a local beer wines and spirits distributor. They normally stock CO2 bottles for pubs and you should be able to swap yours for full ones?

Also try any Calor Gas retailers, I found out by accident that one close to me stocked all welding gases and their CO2 was £12 a year for the bottle and £11 a refill.

If you have an industrial estate it's worth a ride around, amazing how poor some firms are at advertising.

Thanks cumbriasteve I'll look in to that, I have mates who work for fabrication companys but they all say they don't use that size bottle.

I had that with my CO2 supplier, when I went to get a refill from on April 1st, when I arrived at where I got my previous cylinder from, two guys told me that the company had moved, but the building was still showing all the signage for the CO2 supplier, so I thought they were having a laugh at my expense. the two guys told me they had moved to a nearby industrial estate, but with nearly 100 units, it took me a while to find them

@ optima21- Thanks for reply, it is weird I can still get a number for North East Fire in Grangetown but when you ring it you get a message saying "Sorry we can not connect you at this time, please try again later", I'll have to try a get there during the day see if they are still open.

@ slim_boy_fat - I don't drink mate, I'm a very cheap date, but another option.

I used to use NE Fire as well, slip the guy a fiver and roll the empty bottle under the gate... - I heard they went a while ago, taken over by (I think) HE Woolley!

I'm in Norton, by the way.

I thought some pub CO2 has something else in it that renders it unsuitable for welding...?

bit too far North for you, if you get ever so very desperate, Cormeaton will fill while you wait on a good day, Make sure bottle is in "Test" and not expired. If you want fill while you wait -give them a ring to confirm they can oblige. Save you a wasted journey.

if it is a branded bottle call into local pubs to see if they use the same gas and they will proberbly get an extra bottle in for you

Thanks for replies Wedg1e, Ford34/2 and captain-destructo.

I went for a drive over to Grangetown last night to have a look if North East Fire was still their, derelict building is still there, there was a bottle lying in the grass at front of building and a stack of them in a cage at the back of the building, so if anybody wants a bottle and doesn't mind climbing a 7ft fence/wall then fill you boots.

@captain-destructo - after taking advice from North East to customise my bottle so the brewery couldn't claim it back it now has no ID on the top handle and painted a totally different colour.

I'll see what tomorrow/this week brings, I've got a few numbers to ring.
