CNC plasma/laser cutting company that's good to deal with.

Any recommendations? Or indeed members who do such work? I've asked around locally and can't find anywhere yet.

This is for a simple project that's mostly still in my head and needs quite a bit of time putting to it yet. But ultimately if I know I could source small batches of cut plate, that weren't too expensive or tricky to obtain, I'd design it to suit.

So, any suggestions?
-small pieces (max 12" square, most under 6")
-~5mm thick
-mild steel
-small numbers, to start with, potentially down to as few as 4 or 5bits.
-willing to post.

Any thoughts welcome!

I would be very surprised if there isn't a local firm to you. Lancaster isn't exactly a hotbed of mechanical engineering and I know of three plasma cutters and a water jet firm. Teagle and Westmac won't be that far from you, and I bet they have local plasma suppliers, unless they do their own. One point is accuracy, I get most stuff water jet cut and it is well within 1mm. Tried one of the plasma firms and it came out more like flame cut. Another plasma firm display at autojumbles and their sample items looked as sharp as the water jet cuts.

Don't be totally bent on looking at plasma or laser alone. Water jet prices have tumbled in recent years so don't be afraid to get quotes from water jet cutters also.

Again, I would recommend looking for a local company.... google is your friend. Support your local companies or lose them is my motto.

Definitely look locally. I use a company that can drop off parts for a reasonable price because they have wagons in my area.

It makes a big difference when you've got a few KG's worth.

I have used Lasermaster https://www.lasermaster.co.uk/easy-order buy off their easy order and it is cheap as anything. They were also cheapest by a long shot for the engine adapter I had made up.

Thanks all, I spoke to localish one today who was very helpful if a little expensive sounding. Great to have that recommendation in tavistock too.

Once I have some .DXFs to send, I'll be able to know more.
