CM Lodestar electric chain hoist 110V max 3000t

Managed to get this, in the air a little. Thank goodness for the small chain blocks that came with the gantry, I couldn't muster enough to lift the thing onto the beam to test and play.

These are its best sides. The rest are suffering from major peeling.

What to do with this, can't have it in this condition. Hmm, should I paint it (with epoxy) red or just go black?
Think I'll have enough Jotsun to do the hoist and the gantry in black.
Rub down and get rid of all the dust, then a couple of coats of Jotun Conseal Touch-Up, this will be done once it's on the gantry.
That way I don't have to lift it and shuffle it around.

The coating is just pealing off in the wind!

Chain lacks oil, that's an easy fix. Must have been in a high building originally, there's a good 18 meters of chain in the chain bag, that's why the bags so heavy!

I thought I read on here 110v is only used on portable equipment on a job site ?

This would normally be wired in with some form of festooning ?

No, quite common for industrial equipment to have safer 110 volts, driven via a mains 240v to 110v transformer.
My 12-inch mitre saw is also 110v, it's really not very portable, yes it can be carried but is more likely to be set up and kept on site until the job is over.

Either, RAL 2003/2004/2008 all fairly close, but matched on my computer screen, so flip a coin....

Remove the end cover and take it with you.....

If you need a trolley for it, Vevor ones are cheap and seem up to the job......

Probably more than you'll ever need to lift..

Thanks, downloaded a number of manuals. All different sizes/no. of pages. Will check them out and choose the best one when I need to, but thanks for the offer.
Picked up a trolley for just a bit less than the price of the vevor, this one.

GT 3 tonne push girder trolley. Will keep an eye out for an electric one to match the Lodestar, but I've been really lucky so far with everything that's here.

As said trailing cable much safer as 110v especially with a good chance of it becoming snagged or caught in the chain or beam

That hoist is very common over here, and many are 240/480 vac 3 phase.
However, on ours, the pendant buttons are probably 120vac or even 24vac

It's also very common in the UK in the entertainment industry where they're almost always 415V and painted black.

Although liftket have become more common than CM in more recent years.

ELV control is usually 24V supplied by the hoist with whatever controls being either simple buttons or relay outputs from a multi hoist controller.

Ultimately CM manufacture them for multiple different industries and for any international power supply, or will customise them for special applications.

Upol acid 8 etch primer has worked well for me.

This thread reminds me, I have a very similar hoist, last time I used it, it stopped. I haven't had chance/forgot to look into it. Could be as simple as the 110v transformer, I'll check it out Wednesday, my next workshop day.

whatever 2k acid etch you can get cheap enough .i bought some at autojumble 24 quid the paint and hardener

Is there any truth in an etch primer requiring top coating, as it's porous?

Yeah you need a top coat, but it's just a tool and a heavy one at that it's bound to pick up scratches and chips. I didn't bother with a primer just went straight on with aerosol top coat and be done.
