Clutch Upgrade Transit Connect

There used to be a clutch reconditioner near me that could fit heavier springs to otherwise standard clutch covers, shut down about a decade ago but could be worth a look to see if there is another similar company about.

You have to rev the nuts off this 1.5 to get anywhere

I wonder if that 1.5 engine is the same as in my Combo van?
It's a Peugeot PSA thing that's absolutely gutless at low RPM as in almost nothing until 1500rpm then a kick of 'power' then nothing until it hits the limiter, horrible in traffic without low down grunt and horrible on the motorway with no engine breaking or pull to keep up with traffic.
It really does encourage you to thrash it

My 04 reg Combo van has the old 1686 Isuzu diesel. Can pull away on the flat with a loaded trailer, and not even touch the throttle. Only doing 2350 rpm at 70mph and will still pull to over 100mph. Abroad obviously.

Had a Sprinter when I was working. Had a 3 litre six cyl turbo diesel, but would fall flat on its face if you tried to pull away smartly, unless you revved it hard and slipped the clutch. Awful. Was very poor on fuel too.

I have a Helix Autosport clutch in my Golf, originally fitted 20+ years ago.

The car suffered a gearbox failure and was laid up for a long long while.

When rebuilding it a couple of years ago I contacted Helix Autosport and asked if they could repair my friction plate (oil contaminated).

They re-lined it and posted it back for £110 inc vat. I was looking at £500 for a new setup so that was an absolute bargin.

They hand make bespoke clutches for basically anything so worth a ring if anyone needs a reliable UK based company.

I was amazed they took care of me, could quite easily have said a new clutch kit was the only option. Excellent service.

I was next to their unit about two weeks ago, i saw the name and thought they sounded familiar,

Must be a dual mass flywheel clutch?

Funnily enough I was paying extra attention to the general jumble of doom-like noises that emanate from my Fiesta Van (1.4tdci, 88k miles).
(On paper this van is gutless at 68bhp... but weirdly it doesn't feel like it is, except just off idle pulling away, and if you want to accelerate harder than normal...when you find there isn't more).
The van has a mechanical "noise" that varies with engine speed, not road speed. Rev the engine stationary clutch out in neutral - and then depress the pedal... and you can hear the noise spool down & stop - suggesting it's the DMF/Clutch or shaft bearings in the gearbox perhaps?
The van seems to be noisier (hard to tell for sure) & if I engage reverse with brake on & raise the pedal into the bite point there's some definite clunkiness going on. I guess it could be an engine mounting, but given the clutch/gearbox noises (& clutch/box aren't that special)....

I've not done a clutch in donkeys years, & never done a DMF - so it's just guesswork at this point. I've driven lots of miles in several different vans for work with DMF's - and the feel & operation never seem to inspire the confidence of the old single plate units to me.

darn, had nt realised Celtic had agents , went to local "tuner" who managed to make my mitsi smoke so much it did nt get out the shed he had to re fit standard tune ...still charged full amount though , felt like I had been mugged.
