Our new place has provision for a woodburning stove (Yes, really in a 2021 build!).
Obviously, we have no intention of installing one or any other kind of solid fuel appliance in the foreseeable future. A balanced flue 'hole in the wall' type gas fire might be on the cards in the future unless I can keep up the procrastination effort indefinitely.
Closing off the chimney is easy - Chimney Sheep.
Closing off the vent, I thought of the following reversible option:
Remove internal grill.
Place square of heavy duty plastic over the inside of the external air brick
Make a cardboard rectangular tube to go through the cavity.
Inject expanding foam
Stand well back whilst it does its stuff
Trim the excess flush.
This will be behind furniture so doesn't need skimming to match the wall, but I suppose I trim the foam, add a square of plasterboard, skim and paint if I were feeling enthusiastic.
Does anyone see a problem with this bodge?
Any specific type or brand of expanding foam to choose - or avoid? Otherwise, it's Screwstation's cheapest.
