A lesson learnt for nix, so quite a bargain! I had a circular saw kick back and nick my thumbnail, taking out a wee divot - like you, I thought how bad it could have been...

Another case for wearing gloves at all times. I try to remember to put mine on whenever using spinny things.

We have notices on our "spinny" machines (drillers, grinders etc.) at work stating NOT to wear gloves! I suppose a loose thread or bit of cloth could be dragged in taking your hand with it

Something i see every so often is blokes sticking their finger through bolt holes. A beam weighing god knows how much, dangling on a crane, bump it up against a column and then stick their finger through the holes to check they line up. Only takes a gust of wind and their finger will be snipped off. Fingers are not podgers.
Glad you escaped unharmed Chunko. You'll remember that one for a while i bet.

Glad you ok Chunko, done a similar thing quite a while ago now....was merrily turning away on the lathe and had some nice swarf peelers going, thinking that's getting a bit on the long side.....you can see whats coming can't you......yup, grabs the end of the swarf to pull it away..... trouble was the lathe was still spinning at a fair old lick... did I feel like a Pillock... course I did. grabbed hold of it with the swarf hook next time.....

The silliest one I've done for a while was to chop of a thin strip of sheet, then hold on to one end of it while I stuck it under the pillar to drill a hole in it. All went well until the drill broke through. At this point my nice strip of steel rolled up around the drill like spaghetti, dragging itself through my fingers and taking a nice slice out on the way. It could have been much worse.... Plank, I believe is the word I'm looking for!
