Golf balls drilled three quarters the way through make great file handles, but not the ones with a liquid center, so be careful to use eye protection when drilling. Use a smaller size drill than the tang for a good friction grip. Try it, I'm confident you'll like it.

Good idea, I'll try that. I use empty 8g NO2 cans for handles on smaller files.

The setup I used was.......
1.) Shorten the needle end of the tangs.
2.) Line up the center hole in the drill press table under the bit.
3.) Set the drill depth.
4.) Hold the balls with channel lock pliers and drill.

Easy, but do wear goggles !

I would concur with sulphuric over electrolysis for files, brings them up nice.

yup that's where they came from. the other thing I once scored on a bloke had a 1 hundredweight plaggy bag of red rawlplugs. I asked how much thinking he was flogging them by the hundred he said 5 quid . how many for . the lota guy stood next to me and said he wanted some so I gave him a couple of handfuls free . I didn't have the heart to charge him

Storing files in a toolbox is a no-no, especially if there are other files in there as they'll attack each other. Hung is the best way I believe.
