No, i think Coldplay are FAR WORSE than having to get up an hour earlier. After all it only takes a couple of weeks to get used to getting up earlier, but COLDPLAY have been with us for 10 years now....still can't get used to that.

When I hear they were declared the best band in the world....shows what a terrible state modern pop and rock music is in (I have bought very few modern CD's since the year 2000), Cold play must be one of the most overrated bands ever. And yes, I do have one of their albums, maybe two (one may be one on my iPOD). The song "Yellow" is OK, I used to do it in one of my cover version bands, and we used to reproduce the vocal harmonies live. I heard Coldplay live on the radio and THEY CAN'T EVEN DO THEIR OWN VOCAL HARMONIES LIVE. Keyboards did the line.

I think music goes in decades, the 90's were fantastic for music, possibly the best decade ever, except the 1970's. The 80's were dire, with some exceptions, and the 2010's are a disaster area. I think I have less than 10CD's from the 2010's and that is unusual for me, and most of those were bands that started in thye 80's or 90's. (Metallica, RHCP's, Foo fighters).

Look at the rubbish bands we have, Kings of Leon, come on! In any other decade such a mediocre band would have dissapeared after their first album. Even worse, however, are the bands that seem determined to revive the worst of the 80's such as Kaiser Chiefs and the even worse Franz ferdinand. I heard these guys on radio 1 live session and they were truly apalling, out of time, out of tune, sloppy, bad sound and their songs are rubbish to boot.

Decent rock seems to have been replaced by the awful whiney "Emo" bands. Yuk, the 2000's a wash out. Lets hope the 20teens are a bit better.

It is not a case of tolerance pal. The bands from the 2000's have been rubbish, simple as that. And as it happens i am very open minded about music. I have everything from classical, to rock, pop, blues, mainly rock. It is just that Rock and pop music over the past decade has been mostly useless.

I don't see why we should be "tolerant" of utter mediocre rubbish like Emo, the Kaiser chiefs and Coldplay!!! We have tolerated this rubbish for far too long, it is time for some decent music.

To label a style of music as rubbish just because you don't like it reduces the credibilty of your opinions on the subject, regardless of how eclectic your tastes may be.

Sorry about the earlier thread hi-jack. I don't recall subscribing to this thread, so I don't know why I started receiving notices about it.

We don't have daylight saving in Western Australia. We had it for 3 years as a trial which ended last year, the politicians who established the trial are against daylight saving so the trial was set up to fail (the State Parliament is still using a sun dial). The locals are worried about getting their morning erections on the trains instead of in the privacy of their homes, and the usual stuff about curtains fading faster with the extra daylight, kids not going to bed on time, cows not coming to the milking sheds on time (the last reason was a genuine argument put forward here opposing daylight saving). At the conclusion of the (flawed) trial the motion was defeated. It should never have been an issue over here, we have now had four referendums on the subject since 1975, two I have voted on since coming of age 20 years ago, it was defeated all four times. So while I am personally in favour of daylight saving I don't think we should have here, or any further discussion on the matter in Western Australia until a very significant period of time has passed.

Surely we are entitled to have extreme opinions of types of music we dont like. isn't that part of the fun. I have dire taste in music, half of it cant be played in public, but I love it.

There has been great and awful music in every decade, just in the 90's you had to go searching for it. And a lot of it sounds better 10-15 years later. Except Abba and Kaiser chiefs.
Sundials? what is the point of these things, they are only right once a year because of the wobble on the earth's axis.

I agree with you on the ABBA, great, talented musicians, brilliantly crafted songs, but I am still not a fan. I do however, tolerate ABBA, but not Kaiser chiefs (yuk), Coldplay (yawn) or Franz Ferdinand

What is so great about "tolerance" anyway?? We should not be prepared to have to "tolerate" rubbish.

The point is one mans trash, another mans treasure. We don't have to tolerate the music we don't like, we can change radio stations or not buy albums from bands/artists we don't like. But if the "music" these bands we don't like is affording them a huge income and indulgent lifestyle (I wish) then perhaps they aren't rubbish as there must be a lot of fans for whom they are brilliant. I loathe Linkin Park, but they must have talent or they would never have become popular enough to bruise my ears with their ****e
