I never really think about "upcycling" but I have an oil gauge from the primary school I went to , it's been kicking around for a while so maybe a clock?
And where is best to get the gubbins?

You can get battery powered gubbins of ebay cheaply. Just fix the back bit to the dial and stick on the hands

I bought one from Proops to repair a clock. It came within two days and was about £3 posted, I couldn't believe it.

These Chinese movements/clocks keep time remarkably well, too.

pound shop sell clocks that can be butchered for the workings - it can be difficult to remove the hands without damage, however

This clock is in one of my garages. It was a pressure guage. I just fitted a quartz movement in it that I got from ebay.

Nice BUT. I think that they are loosing the original purpose bit, I would be tempted to fit the battery unit (I have done a few similar) Fit slightly shorter pointers and re-number inside the existing markings,
