I’ve got to get up on our bungalow roof sometime, I’ve done it many times, but I think I will leave it at the moment. I don’t want to have a minor accident, go to A & E & catch something nasty, not the best place to be at the moment!

Take out sets of 5 tiles in a footstep pattern. That way you can tread on the joists underneath. I do this all the time when I need to get up there so I don’t break any tiles. Mine are handmade Staffordshire blues, about 4 quid each assuming you can find any so breaking them makes me swear......a lot.

If it was me, I'd put a ladder up at the gable end, walk along either side of the ridge, get my Knipex wire croppers out, cut the aerial cable, snip the aerial straps, kick it off the roof, get back on the ground and fit a freesat dish at the end of the guttering.

My dad and I have been up on the roof of his bungalow a few times to fiddle with aerials (TV, scanners, FlightAware, probably more 
). No broken tiles just wandering around with no roof ladder, reading some of these posts we must have just been lucky. 
I'd agree with getting a new lashing kit, it didn't take us long to give up with the old rusty nuts and lop them off.

im near 18 stone and can walk up tiles with out breaking them and the tiles on my roof are over 50 years old

it was crumbling , not primed with pva or what ever .. he bought a tube of roofing sealant /silicone so I pointed it up with that , should be good now for several years at least 
. He did say , your a perfectionist aren't you , I said yup pretty much 
Ps no tiles broken tried to spread my weight and don't step on the tile edges / corners

As been said. Don't step on the corners of tiles. Keep off any that are slightly raised or not sitting proper, so make sure roof ladder doesn't bear on these areas also. Stand on the tail of the tile with flat tile like Marley Modern, where the head of other tile and tile batten is underneath, this takes your weight better and doesn't break. If tiles are even reasonable and you are careful, you shouldn't break any, even when up there a few hours. I have broken more concrete tiles on new roofs than old ones. New tiles from factory can be pretty green ie not fully cured. After a few years they harden like hell. My own tiles here are Ludlow +( 15"x9" over 60 years old. You can still have an hour on them with no breaks, but not always like that as I have seen some same age like soggy digestive.
A lot depends on how the tiles are sitting too. IE. properly supported by good tile batten practice. After a long time the concrete tile takes water in and becomes porous and soft. Tile quality was a bit dodgy when they started up after slump of 15 ?years ago. Lots of soft tile and poor colour holding etc. Like they were skimping on cement or had lost method or something. Don't know if that is better now. Redland at one time had a 70 year warranty. Probably all done away with now I suppose.
