Clear coat roll on?

Just finished paint the van,by roller,took forever as the weather wasn't my friend,too hot,too windy,too wet and those annoying people who pass by saying oooooooo,are you painting your van,no i'm baking a cake




Now i've used military vehicle paint,in satin,have done a few times before,i like it,easy to brush,roll and spray(oh how i wished i could have here),but anyway it is what it is,i'm happy with it,ok theres a few very small bits that need attention but hey ho,the grills to go on yet, waiting on some fixings to arrive
Now the small problem with this paint is,although its quite tough it does mark easy,which is bloody annoying,the van next to this is my other one,i did that in matt,again great finish but with just wiping your hand over it leaves a mark,of course when fully cured.

So chaps,i'm looking for suggestions on a tough top clear coat/varnish,this has to be applied by roller or brush,although i have the tools for spraying i cant in this location/setting
Whats available,any ideas?

I bought clear coat from smithandallan which I brushed on top of their enamel paints
That seems to have stood the test of time in the sunshine
think it might gloss up your satin finish though

Im very interested to see how you get on, I sprayed my T4 nato green, i love the colour, but my lovely siblings wrote "pussy wagon" across the back door..... and its well and truly scratched in!

What sort of thinners does the paint use ? This will have a bearing on any lacquer. Paint factors can do matting agent for lacquer, but its hard to exactly specify the amount of matting you will get if you want some sort of satin finish.

Its very forgiving,and very much the same i was using some 40+yrs ago doing my bit for queen and country
I'm thinking yacht varnish,but from what i see most of that is water based not sure that'll sit on oil based paint

Yes. White spirit base will be a problem. Will need to dry for a month before putting anything water based on top, or it may pick up, unless you can spray it on. Again, possibly worth having a word with a paint factor ?

You could have bought 2K in matt, and rollered it on. Wouldn't be having this problem now !

yeah its pretty matt, which i like, but it does scratch easy! i did wonder about clear coat with a matting agent
i just used standard thinners

I meant the green paint, would have needed no lacquer. I don't know how 2K lacquer would work with your existing paint.

I have brush painted 2K before, on interior floor pans and brackets etc, using slow thinners. It was Lechler paint. Comes out surprisingly well. Never rollered a vehicle though, but its an interesting idea, and would like to see the finish up close.

The van looks very well in Nato green ( assuming that's what it is) I've lost count of the number of Land Rovers I've painted with it, though 'daubed' would be a better word, as it was generally done with a rough 6'' brush
You've got a nice finish there, and it really suits the motor
