Cleaning very thick tarnish off brass

im sure tilley lamps were coated with a bronze colour coating and not just brass

Ive got a few but they are all red ones.....Ive seen the brass ones that have been cleaned up and Id guess they were solid brass....but I could be wrong...

A long time ago I saw a demo and gave it a try, Worked great, Plastic bowl, piece of aluminium sheet in the bowl,( even a couple of layers of ali foil will work. hot water in the bowl to cover the item and a handful of washing soda. the item must be in good contact with the aluminium, just keep checking but it doesn't take long, Same procedure can be used with excellent results on gold and silver.

I saw it on tv when I was a kid and then cleaned up a load of my parents silver candle sticks etc...

put them in a big pan of water on the oven and boiled it... with loads of little bits of aluminium foil floating around... worked great :-)

just came across this,check the bit for the cleaning,ok its copper,but might work for brass
