I have a customer asking me to make three life sized horses in steel bars, I like the idea of using stainless, they will be going out of doors. Probably using 308 grade, again opinions welcome on what grade to use.
The structure will be similar to this, ie lots of triangles and trapezoids
However I do not like the idea of cleaning them with pickle paste, a hideous job, dangerous and slow.
First thought.
My local galvanizers have a massive tank of Hydlochloric acid. Could they be dipped in this to remove oxide deposits etc or would it damage the properties of the steel?
second thought,
Get them blasted either sand or bead blasted. is sand blasting to agressive a process?
Third thought.
Do them in mild steel and get them galvanized and or powder coated.
Powder coaters seem very reluctant to discuss how long lasting their finish is. One powder coater says galv then powder one says this is not needed.
What thoughts do you guys have?
