one of those stainless steel swarf pot scourers - pop it in add hot soapy water fit lid and shake

Maybe use half a dishwasher tablet in it with hot water to the top, like I've done in our two litre stainless steel flask.
Leave for 10 hrs or so or overnight, empty, then rinse well with couple of hot water rinses & finish with a cold rinse & then let it drain off upside down for a few minutes.

I thought that when I first tried it but its worked so far and it’s certainly not a fancy dishwasher

I used to clean my home brew barrel with bleach, the unflavoured runny old style stuff. One day my wife said she would clean & sterilise it while I was at work. She used that pine flavoured thick bog bleach, it took ages to swill that out & make it usable!
