Question - what are you currently using to clean a weld at a 45 deg angle?

I'm aware of what the first post says, the OP didn't word it very well, as can be seen from his second post, posted before yours Coo.

Nobody is trying to sell anything at the mo and there's nothing in the rules to say a first post has to be an intro so let's keep things friendly please.

Why would you need to clean the weld? Lay it right in the first place and don't touch it again.

If i really did need to get in there i would use a Dynafile or Finitube jobby. Time consuming and tiresome to mess about with, so lay the weld right first time.

It is quite difficult to get welds in tight angles right. But most amateurs who would need such a tool, probably could not justify the (probable) high cost. So I agree, the market is limited. Metabo kit is very good, and priced accordingly.

Must admit, the idea of putting a disc in the grinder to reach the weld in the shot, makes my hair curl, due to the tip speed and likely break up. Often discussed on here, I am surprised a pro even mentions it. Might give tyros ideas

If i really did need to get in there i would use a Finitube jobby.

Where do these companies pull the RRP for tube linishers. 880 'kin quid, for a bloody angle grinder with a couple of bits of ali and and two springs.

Metabo's isn't that much cheaper.

And I bet an extended grinder will be just as daft a price, for what is a belt bearing and arbor on a bit of ali.

If these were sold as add ons to a standard grinder they wouldn't be able to charge such ridiculous prices. So why do they think sticking it on a 50quid grinder enables them you charge 17x the price

Might be that the liability issues if it was a bolt on to a standard grinder are a bit tricky. Something like the rento co.s not wanting to change discs on an angle grinder without a cert.

Its hard enough getting the weld in them places in the first place why would you wanna grind em out afterward ? Never done that in 35 years !

Guys, all this type of kit is aimed more at finishing/blending stainless work not knocking back bird droppings. As Shox said they're all basically a low rpm and/or variable speed grinder with attachments to make blending/regraining large areas and awkward things like inside corners or tube easier and faster. The machines are 'kin spendy and the abrasives ain't cheap either but as everything time is money and some people obviously think they pay for themselves by getting the job done faster and/or because it lets them save money on less skilled staff

KemppiFrog - I would definatley not recomend removing the guard and using a large disc diameter to enable someone to reach the weld, but I have seen this done by users in some industrial applications, or the guy is stood there for an hour or so with a straight grinder as his angle grinder does not fit in the space. This grinder is not designed for day in day out use but as a problem solver - there are some applications that require a solution and we are trying to solve that solution. My question is do you in your current work have such an application that if you could you would use an angle grinder? and what is that application? It might be that there is no need for such a grinder - this is why I am asking for your expert opinion. I have uploaded a few more image to give you an idea.

Yeah surely if you just designed your "normal" grinders with a slimmer head the need for specialist expensive kit would be negated somewhat, although I see this would diminish profits, but if you aren't going to sell a large volume of the specials its 6 of one half a dozen of the other!!

Im confused, are you asking how to clean welds in tight spaces or asking how to market your(new?) slim head grinder?

Professional welders will, as mentioned before, lay a good weld straight away. Being a semi-pro/diy/occasional welder like myself theres always that occasion when a weld in a tight space goes a bit awry and it would be nice to be able to dress it.

Im late to the party regarding Metabo tools, but if possible i'll replace with them as and when my current equipment gives up as I have been really impressed with them so far. But for this sort of instance I would assume my next purchase(a die grinder)would be best? Of course if you want to send one of each i'd be happy to test/compare the two.
