Cleaning a fuel filter

I know everyone is going to say buy a new one but ive spent enough lately as it is...

Is there anything i can use to flush a spare petrol filter out just to prove a point before buying a new one?

If a flushed filter doesnt make a difference then i can rule it out and move on with no money lost

flush it out backwards with petrol and the crap will fall off

in the past i have just pumped fresh fuel the wrong way through and

if its a paper filter and it has water in it will be knacked and soggy

Let it completely dry and blow it through backwards with compressed air....Ive done it in the past when my backs been against the wall with great results

Do your test without a filter,

Take the pipe off the fuel rail & direct it into a can, turn on ignition so the system primes or operate the starter. Loads of fuel should be pumped out. If it does the filter's not blocked. If it doesn't either the pumps shot or the filters blocked.

Well...that seemed to work...took it off, drained it out and blasted some air through it backwards...loads of black crap came out...

Will swap it fornthe one on the running car tomorrow and see if there is a difference

I wouldn't run without a filter, one bit of muck through the system & the injectors will be blocked, if the filters full of muck, there must be muck in the tank & lines. The manufactures wouldn't spend money on a filter if it wasn't needed.

Well i putnthe clean filter on and it made no difference, however after a bit more investigation infound a kinked fuel line...

Bashed it about a bit and seems to work now so new line on order

My petrol mk5 Astra dosent't have a fuel filter was looking for adges and couldn't find it, started bugging me then i found out there isn't one fitted.

Are vacuum cleaners safe devices to ingest fuel vapour? I'm thinking not...

I remember someone i worked with years ago who thought it'd be ok to use a wet dry vac to empty a fuel tank full of petrol. it ran for about 5 seconds before bursting into flames. It doesn't sound funny but it really was. I still laugh everytime I think of it.
