Classic car insurance Inc Europe and breakdown

Who have now rebadged as Howden Insurance. I remain unconvinced that they will stay as good as they used to be.

I have had mixed results. I wasn't impressed at being bounced off to "my local A-Plan specialist office".

When I first used them over a decade ago they were excellent. I think they had a management buyout or expanded or somesuch and the service went down. They perked up a bit shortly after and then got taken over and renamed.

My UMM Transcat is on a Classic Commercial policy with NFU and costs me just over £100 pa. Might be worth asking if they do Classic Car cover ?

I've changed to Bennet's for the bike, I'm still unsure the policy I was under with RH included recovery to home, sales person said yes, but's that not how the policy wording read to me. Read the actually policy before paying.

Read the small print when buying breakdown cover. A standard classic won’t be too much trouble but some of the terms and conditions can be ridiculous. I tried getting some a few years ago for my modified classic when I went to Belgium. The Uk was still in the eu and even then because of the spec of my car it would have been a waste of money getting breakdown… the onward costs associated and then fixing would have been crippling. Much cheaper just to leave the car there.

Have you seen their (Bennett's) reviews? A bigger bunch of crooks would be difficult to find.

It all looks great, until...

If you still can, my advice would be to cancel immediately. They pull some really disgusting stunts and have caused a lot of people much grief. One of their favourites is when you want to make a minor change. Not only do they inflict a ridiculous "fine", they also tell you that the policy is cancelled because their underwriters don't like the change. The only option is to take out a new policy with them so that you don't forever have to declare a cancelled cover. Charlatans and crooks, as the Trustpilot reviews will show. Claims are another thing.

I was with RH for years, but let it lapse 2 years ago. Just got a quote to reinsure my old Rover, and it has more than doubled in price.

Last time I renewed it was £91. Now £230 ! Got a fully comp quote from Confused.com for £89 !
