Clarkson tool and cutter grinder flat belt

Hi Guys

I am in need of a Clarkson Tool and cutter grinder flat belt,
I have found them at machine spares Ltd, but at £30, plus delivery and the vat, it comes out at over £50!!!!

Thats quite a lot in my oppinion.

The original belt (inc the machine spares) is NOT rubber coated,
I can buy rubber coated belts cheaper, but I am wondering why they where not and are still not (original) rubber coated belts.

the grinder spins to around 4200

any ideas on what to use and where to get it from ???

Hi Piero,
I needed a new flat belt for my Black & Decker Valve re-facing grinder and used a automotive ribbed belt but I turned it inside out to get the flat surface. It works perfectly and was a very cheap alternative.

Is it likely to get coolant on it? Generally rubber doesn't like coolant so leather or synthetic belts are used.

never seen one with a stepped pully,
they have a max spindle speed rating.

when I inquired with one supplier, they asked what dia the pully was as it effects the amount the belt has to bend (and under speed also)

The belt on my valve re-facer is the original, well it's got wolf on it, it's fabric belt.
I am just looking at a Velocette dynamo belt, pretty similar looking fabric belt to
the valve re-facer, the replacements velo belts are rubber.
Maybe a polyV belt inside out would work?

A poly vee will work because I've done it but I had to grind all the vees off it, mostly because I ran the 3 phase motor off single phase with just a capacitor so it had poor starting torque. I imagine a proper motor wouldn't suffer.
