Clarke Welder Advice Please

Guys,

After a previous thread i discovered that my mig welder would just burn holes in my cars panels i have decided to take your advice sell it and buy another.

The link below was recomended to me,

didnt know if i needed the first one as it starts at 24 amps where as the second starts at 30 ???

Go for the lower starting current and get one that will take gas.

I used to have the 90EN and if I needed higher current I used a cheap stick welder.

Thanks for the wuick reply, both can either be gasless or converted to gas with a simple regulator.

Which would be the better gas to use, co2, argon or a mix of the 2 ???

I think there is a thread about sheilding gasses in the how to section, if you want my opinion get a mix of the two! far better weld than just plain old Co2 but if your on a budget Co2 all the way

a price i didnt think was to bad, just dont know how long it will last ???

Those disposable cylinders last about 5 minutes, OK if you want to spend £11 to try it out, but not for proper use.

I bought the 105en personally, I take the point about having a lower amp setting for thin metal but I've managed metal less than 1mm with it okay and wanted the slightly better duty cycle and if you need to weld any thicker chassis bits you don't have to drag out the arc welder.

I also just used it gasless, I'm sure gas would be better but I can't justify spending money on hiring gas bottles or throwing money away on loads of £12 bottles to practice. Gasless does the job, just needs getting used to.

its not just the regulator m8 ,,, the gun will probably need changing for one that will use gas, then you will need the pipe, feeding the pipe to the gun can be a real pain,

The EN models come with a gas-capable torch. Will just need the reg for gas.

If you can blag a Halfords Trade Card you'll get the disposable Argomix cylinder for £8.99 - only a pound off retail but even at that cheaper than MM.
