Good afternoon,
With my 40th rapidly approaching, my wife is seeking present ideas. Much to her disgust, I would rather like a TIG welder (think she wants me to get Golf Clubs or jewellery or some other crap like that).
As luck goes, there is a branch of MM just up the road from me and this has drawn me towards the Clarke TIG Inverters. Obviously, you only get one 40th birthday, so I don't want to end up buying something that I won't be happy with.
I must confess that I have a Clarke MIG set (150 TE) which I am more than happy with - but I understand that TIGs (and, mores to the point, the Inverter type TIGs) can be a little more temperamental. It's not going to get used for anything heavy (the MIG is more up to that) - probably thin sheet and inserting patches into my beloved 944.
Has anyone experienced these units and what's the general consensus of opinion on useability / reliability.
Currently, it's a toss up between the Clarke and a Rehmann unit from ebay. So I'd really appreciate thoughts on that also.
Thanks in advance,
Ian.
