Clarke MIGs: Pro 90, 90EN or 105EN?

Hi all,

I have a 20% off voucher (aka VAT free) for Machinemart and up to £200 to spend on a new welder (I understand that other bits will also cost money). Looks like my options are the Pro 90, 90EN or 105EN. I will be mostly doing car bodywork, nothing structural, and it will be for very intermittent/light usage.

Any suggestions as to which would be best, or anything I should be aware of between the three?

90-100 amp max. Not sure I could live with that. Sure it's enough for car body panels but there will be times you will want to weld something thicker than 2mm. Even with the 20% off you would be better off taking your 200 notes and searching for a more gutsy used lump. IMO

the max amps are low, the lowest amps aren't goi g to very nice to use, my mightymig 100 is the same breed and not the best compared to a decent machine like a 151 or 160

My choice would be the 100en, if you look at the duty cycle on the mm web site it is 55 amps at 60% useage, the 90 is only 30 amps. The 100en can be used with gas or use gasless wire if you need to use it outside. I know the 90 goes to a lower power for sheet metalwork, but I think you will find the 30 amp of the 100 low enough, I did anyway.

I used a 100en for 20 years & have no complaints, but I am sure someone else will be along in a minute with a different view.

I bought a secondhand clarke 90(it had the lowest amp setting I found for reasonable money) after getting fed up of my 150amp welder blowing holes in body panels all the time.Since buying it I haven't touched the bigger machine.The 90 is excellent for welding newer and older car body steel.I also use it at work for repairing seat frames and other odds and ends.So far its been the best welder I've bought.

Thanks guys, I can't see myself doing anything structural or massive, so I reckon the low max amps and low amps for duty cycle won't be a problem. 've ordered the Pro 90 which comes with the gas kit already, rather than the other two which come set up for gasless. Will let you know how I get on!
