Clarke MIG160TM

I am restoring an old Rice horse trailer and need to replace some of the chassis. I was going to get a friend to weld some replacement box in but I have done some MIG, TIG and MMA at Uni and feel it is time to invest in one myself.

Local store has a MIG160TM in £209 ex VAT. I have a budget of around £200 for this, then need to obviously get all the kit as well.

Would you opt for the Clarke or go down the used route? It will be for 4-5mm box so need the 150amp however only have access to household power supplies.

That's a really good price I would think, Machine Mart sell the same machine for best part of £350, even with their vat free deals it's still close to £300. If you look on MM's on line catalogue you can see the spec.

Although Clarke say a 16a supply is required most people run them happily off a 13a plug, you might blow the odd fuse. It's just Clarke covering themselves.

It's for a project through my sisters business so we get the VAT back... I may enquire more tomorrow then... It's £80 off the retail. I don't think I'll get much else around the £200 mark.

Any cheap, semi decent masks and gloves?

If its for a one off project, then why not hire a pro MIG?

I paid £300 for my 160tm on a promotion so that offer you have is a steal it's a decent welder not had any issues or down time due to wire feed
