Clarke mig pro90 welder

Been told the stick welder isn't right for me and to get a MIG.

There is a Clark Pro 90 Migs for sale in my price range.

Manufacturer claims 20 - 90A, up to 4mm, but looking at your excellent buying guide you say 90A is only up to 2mm.

Also I can't quite tell how many power setting this unit has.

I guess this has been asked a million times before so sorry about that.

Should have 4 power settings. With a root gap and V you should be able to do 4mm easily enough -- 1 pass, no chance!

Really depends what thickness of material you want to use it for........

Hi,

running a pro 90 at full power will quickly overheat the welder and it shuts down for about 20 minutes. You'd be looking at a maximum of around five minutes welding each time on the 2 max setting. It's OK for thinner metal, car bodywork, etc, as a DIY-er but it wouldn't suit for business purposes.

It's easy to fit an external cooling fan though if you needed something cheap and then you have the equivelent of the Clarke Pro 100.

I'd probably be welding thin sheet most of the time so should be ok - I can also easily fit a fan to aid cooling. If I need to weld thicker stuff I can use the stick welder.

My only worry is the gas cost. I have a freindly pub over the road (mate runs it) but not sure how to go about getting the bottles and using pub gas.

hi,

you can buy pub bottles at car boots or off ebay, or ask your mate. I know someone who runs a pub but he said he can't get any more 'spare' bottles as he's already supplied a couple of dozen people. If you're getting one from elsewhere and your mate can get refills through his supplier, ask him beforehand what type of bottles he uses so you get the same type.

If you need a regulator then send a private message to Weldequip on the forum. If it's something that he has then it'll be a good price and excellent service.

I don't know about email notification as I don't use it but if you click on your username it should take you to your 'details' page on the forum. There may be some options to select on there...
