Hope someone can help.
Can i replace a resistor with out buying a circuit board. Welder works when i hold resistor against circuit board but wire has broken off the cuircuit board. Resistor then gets really hot and smokes so can i solder a new resistor onto the board.

whys it broke? resistors loose resistance with heat but theres a reason its ker nack ered

Dont know why it broke.Can i replace the 7w resistor by soldering it.

yep, but it might just go again, best to try and work out the cause rather than fix the effect

might have to order it 7W quite big, really would try n work out the reason though ....

The wire on the end might just have broken through heat-cycling or have been damaged during manufacture, leaving it brittle. Yes, you could fit a new one and that's what I would do in the first instance. If it breaks again, then there's another problem to sort out.

Your local Maplin would be a good place to get one or you could order it online from them. The online catalogue will list physical dimensions so you can check before you order that it will fit. Electrical shops (i.e. that sell electrical goods) won't stock them.

Have been trying to get a resistor without any joy. Maplins dont have the one i need. It has 7WJ then underneath it says 2R2. Can anyone tell me where i can get one please.

It sounds like a 7W 2.2 Ohm resistor.
Are you able to post a photo of it? Or if not, at least describe its appearance and physical dimensions?
