Clarke Machine Mart Mini Gas Regulator

I bought one of these clarke mini regs for my mig but i seem to get no gas flow from numbers 0 - 4 then everything on 5 - 6.

I've took it back to machine mart but the welding "expert" tells me it's how the clarke regs are you have to have them on full all the time, does this sound right to anyone, i'm a novice so any help would be greatly appreciated

yup, that's normal, but quite a few accounts.

Using disposable gas cylinders is, on the whole, a waste of time and money.

Ah cheers, i thought the guy was fobbing me off, i'm not going to be welding enough to warrant a huge bottle at the moment, i need to learn a bit first but cheers for the advice

if your just learning it will cost 10 quid and last 5 minutes so hope u learn fast there crap

a refillable bottle and change the regulator. initialy expensive but the return will be good look on the gas supply sticky and get the best deal preferably no rental charge or get a pub bottle

My mini gas reg always felt like it was an on or off affair. Naff really.

One of the best 'tools' I ever bought was a decent two guage regulator, a flow meter and then large bottle from Adams Gas. Made such a massive difference to my welding it was great. Last forever as well. A little disposable would last for a couple of hobby type jobs before. This bottle lasted about 4 years!!

Edited to say I also use argon mix now, much better than CO2. To prove to myself it was better before I bought the bits I got a disposable argon mix and a CO2 cylinder and compared for myself.

My disposable bottle regulator worked OK with CO2 bottles but wouldn't work at all with Argon/CO2 mix - bizarre.
