Maybe in the wrong section...

Was using my 10t press yesterday to straighten a bit of metal. Gauge was up at 8t and released the valve to reposition. Went to pump ram and its stopped working.

When i lift and lower the pump arm the ram follows suit i.e. lift arm-ram moves up slightly, lower arm-ram moves down, lift arm-ram moves up. Im assuming theres a 1 way valve somewhere that could be knackered. Cant see any leaks from anywhere, could something else be amiss?

Dirt in the non-return valve. Do you have an exploded diagram?

Only thing ive found so far is this

...no exploded view of the pump or ram though.

Not the greatest exploded view but might be some use, the Harbour Freight version. http://manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/44000-44999/44900.pdf

On that, the non-return is items 2C through 7C; yours may have detail differences but will be basically the same, a ball bearing held in with a spring or a spring and shuttle. Whip it out and give all the bits a clean. Probably worth changing the oil as well.

Has it leaked fluid and needs topping up?

My engine hoist stopped working and was just twitching when the pump was operated because it was full of air. Just the other day I was fixing the handbrake on my daughter's car and the trolley jack was acting up only moving at the end of each stroke so I undid the release valve which promptly fired itself across the shed there was so much air pressure behind it. A couple of pumps and refit the release and it's like new again.
